COVID 19 UPDATE AT 27/03/20

REPAIRS

As our contactors are being increasingly affected by the Covid19 situation their availability to do repair work is reducing and they also have a duty to protect their work force.  Whilst they and us have been trying to keep the repairs service as “normal” as possible we now need to restrict service to emergency only repairs, i.e. deemed as life or limb emergency only.  By restricting the repairs service to only absolutely essential or emergency work we can all assist with maximising social distancing too.

Examples:

•       No Toilet Facilities

•       No wash facilities

•       Serious water penetration 

•       Isolation of dangerous/faulty electrical items

•       FULL Central Heating breakdowns (Electrical or Gas)

•       Serious Concern for tenants/ occupants welfare

Before authorising an emergency repair, staff will be asking tenants/ occupants a series of questions to establish a safe working environment.  Our trade operatives have also been instructed to risk assess properties prior to entering by also asking these questions.  I hope you understand the severe approach we are taking on this matter and will co-operate with us on this matter.

WELFARE RIGHTS 

We know that some tenants will genuinely struggle to pay their rent as their wages reduce or stop altogether.  Our Welfare Rights Officer Dawn is still available for telephone appointments to advise you on what you can claim and how, e.g. Universal Credit, or other help offered by the UK Government’s ‘80% of wages’ assistance for PAYE workers or for the self-employed.  She is available by phoning our office number and if busy a later appointment may have to be made for her to call you back.

RENT

You can still pay your rent in the normal way – see Section on Rent payment on our website. Any issues with paying your rent please call the office and request to speak to your housing officer. They are still available to speak to over the phone, so please don’t worry and keep us updated on any change in your circumstances.

GCC SERVICE FOR RECYCLE BINS & BULK UPLIFTS

GCC have advised that they will not be emptying recycle bins until further notice.  Therefore, please do not use the recycle bins during this time.

GCC have also suspended any bulk uplifts until further notice so if you live in a main door property and have bulk items to dispose of, please either keep them in your home or make arrangements to take them to GCC recycling depot.

For tenement properties only where Calvay contractors regularly pull bulk through, these contractors will take the bulk to the recycling depot, but we cannot guarantee how long this service will be available and will advise you on this website, if/when this service has to stop.

CLOSE CLEANING

Having spoken with several other housing associations they have felt that the cleaning of communal areas, doors, secure entry systems would be essential to try and reduce risk to properties with many tenants or those properties that may have vulnerable occupants.  Our close cleaning contractors have organised a limited number of small teams to continue with regular services to existing clients. 

We will also advise you via this website, if/when this service has to stop.
